P3D - Recce Report
Name of Location: Guided Bus Route
Description of Location: The guided bus route has bright lighting but can
get dark under the bridge. It can also be a little bit noisy as there is a main
road above. There may be issues filming there with cyclists going past.

P3A - Trailer Animatic
Strengths:
- Our animatic shows us some of the editing details we need to include to our actual footage such as zooming in and out. We would also add others when we get to the editing stage, for example making some scenes slow motion.
- It helps us to organise the music and sound effects with the correct scenes.
- The animatic gives us a rough idea of how long the actual trailer will be.
- Its a clear visual of what scenes need to be shot, how they will look and what order they will be in.
- The animatic shows us were the camera will be and what kind of shot it will be. Eg close up, pan shot ect.
- Our animation is the next step of bringing the trailer to life and really helps to ensure that we get the best results as possible.
Weaknesses:
- It may not be very precise overall, the actual shots may be longer when we film them than how long we put them on the animatic.
- The locations we film in may inspire us with other shots that we haven't put in the storyboard.
- It doesn't show any of the special effects we are going to use such as miniatures, prosthetic make-up ect.
- It also doesn't show any visual effects we will use.

Production
Ownership - Warp films is an independent film company which was set up in 1989 through record label Warp Records. The company is based in Sheffield and London. The absence of strong Media Ownership results in Warp Films having small budgets.
Subsidiary Company - Warp Records also created Warp X, Warp Music Videos & Commercials and Warps afflicted company Warp Films Australia.

It is designed to make it more attractive to filmmakers due to the company’s ability to release in other markets. It will focus on independent cult and classic films and will spawn online distribution site in May 2005. However, Warp do not always distribute their own films.

EXAMPLE 1
1)
Explain what type of effect is being used? eg mechanised prop,
stunt prop, scale model, prosthetics & makeup,
pyrotechnics.
2) Why
have the film makers used the effect?
The television programme
use this special effect to alter a person’s normal face into something
extraordinary, in this case zombies. A facial prosthesis can transform an actor
into any creature, such as mythical creatures, animals and others.
3) What
other aspects of film making have been used to create the effect? eg lighting,
locations, costumes, props, camera angles, sound, editing techniques or visual
effects (can you explain the difference between the special effects and visual
effects?)
Special effects are carried
out on set during production, and visual effects are done in post-production. Pro
visual effects artists use Maya for The Walking Dead’s modelling, rigging and
animation, while After Effects is used for compositing characters and effects
into the final show. Lightwave, 3ds Max
and Photoshop are also used in the visual effects pipeline.
4) Find
another film or TV text that has used the effect.
Film-
The Dark Knight
The Goonies
The Lord of the Rings
Edward Scissorhands
TV-
Downton Abbey
Misfits
Holby City
Merlin
EXAMPLE 2
1)
Explain what type of effect is being used? eg mechanised prop,
stunt prop, scale model, prosthetics & makeup,
pyrotechnics
Miniatures are used in a
lot of films especially old films. The biggest measured more than 13 metres
long and was designed to be historically accurate down to the smallest details.
During key moments of the film, including the dramatic sinking of the Titanic,
it’s the picture-perfect miniatures that were used to convincingly bring the
massive ship to the screen.
2) Why have the film makers used the effect?
Models and miniatures are copies of people, animals, buildings, settings and objects. Miniatures or models are used to represent things that do not really exist, or that are too expensive or difficult to film in reality, such as explosions, floods or fires. In the film, the boat was easier to manage to avoid a composite, green-screened shot.
3) What other aspects of film making have been used to create the effect? eg lighting, locations, costumes, props, camera angles, sound, editing techniques or visual effects (can you explain the difference between the special effects and visual effects?)
The special effect of the miniature are supported by other affects such as lighting, camera angles and visual effects
4) Find another film or TV text that has used the effect.
Film-
Blade Runner
Indiana Jones
Back to the Future
Independence Day
The Lord of the Rings
The Dark Knight
EXAMPLE 3

Scale models can be used in
films and TV. The models can be things such as submarines, helicopters and
everyday transport. A scale model is a
representation or copy of an object that is larger or smaller than the actual
size of the object being represented. Very often the scale model is smaller than the
original and used as a guide to making the object in full size.
2) Why
have the film makers used the effect?
Scale models are built and
collected for many reasons including, in engineering, for testing the likely
performance of a design object at an early stage without the expense of
building a full-sized prototype; in remote control vehicles; and on TV and in
the movie industry, for constructing objects or sets that cannot be built in
full size.
3) What
other aspects of film making have been used to create the effect? eg lighting,
locations, costumes, props, camera angles, sound, editing techniques or visual
effects (can you explain the difference between the special effects and visual
effects?)
When creating a scale
model, the visual effects that are added in post-production are very important.
Everything has to blend nicely for it to look realistic.
4) Find
another film or TV text that has used the effect.
Many old films have used
this effect but now it isn't very common as there are more updated, modern
technology.
'71 Film Poster Analysis
This official '71 poster is to advertise the film, but additionally includes who the director is,who stars in it and who the special effects are by. It shows us who the main character is and the dramatic emotion of the film. The central image is the main character in uniform holding a gun which gives us straight away the impression that this film is for action genre lovers. The background shows smoke from a fire and people with guns too, there's also a troubled setting going on behind him.The images in the poster are realistic as they just look like photographs from real life.
There are two main colours in the scheme
to the whole poster: an unwelcoming black/dark blue and a dull gold
colour, complete opposites. The title of the film is in white to contrast against
the boring background colours,as well as the small print writing at the bottom.
The bright white catches our eyes and makes it clear as to what the film is
actually called, the film name is also in a larger font size to make it stand
out against everything else that's going on. The poster doesn't appear to have
a tagline, which means less is given away by wording and more is given away from
the image on its own. From this image I don't think it really needs one to be
able to attract your attention, the picture speaks for itself.
The layout of this poster has two
layers, first layer with the main character including all of the writing and the
second layer is the background image of the people in front of the houses. I
think this is a well thought out poster lay out as it gets in everything it
needs. Immediately we are drawn to the large image of Jack O'Connell on the
left and the title, then we see the background and the reviews. As there's only
one big image we realised that he must be a great importance to the film
because everything else is surrounding him.The target audience that this poster
would attract would be towards men,as the style of the poster is very bold and
dynamic. This poster would definitely catch the eyes of action lovers and
dramatic impacting films. It looks like a film full of emotions and fear.
I think this poster is great because it
really matches the film itself and its genre. There's different things to look
at but it isn't too busy and it also shows us everything we need to know, but
not too much.

'71 Official Trailer Analysis
This trailer gives a good sense of what happens in the film and provides details about the plot. In the two and a half minutes that the trailer goes on for it still delivers the idea that the film is a action/thriller,who the main characters are,the obstacles they have to face and their development through the film. After watching this film trailer you can clearly understand the idea of the film plot and the overall tone it will set.
This story includes lots of different characters that are significant but the main character, Jack O'Connell as Gary Hook, is most important as the plot evolves around him. Therefore he gets a lot of screen time throughout the duration of the trailer. But there are still other actors that can further clue you in on the nature of the film itself and are introduced into the trailer which can show their own importance in the film.
The editing of this trailer gives us short, snappy and exciting clips to get us really intrigued about the film. They fade clips in and out to a black screen which gives the effect that this is a drama as well as everything being a crazy thriller and action packed movie. They have also included some music and sound effects which are slow and relaxed which is the opposite to how they are putting the film across, so it makes us even more interested.
This trailer definitely gives a good overview of the actual film as its shows a lot of action and drama, but not enough to give away the whole film away. The beginning of the trailer shows quite a bright and happy atmosphere when Gary is with his brother, but as the camera is hand held its shows the scene as wobbly and unsteady which foreshadows what will happen next.It shows a clip of the sergeant telling them their mission which lets the audience know what is happening. It then follows on to violent clips of the Irish community getting angered as well as the chase scene. Right from the beginning the trailer is gripping which makes you want to watch it to find out what happens and if he survives. It firmly holds you into what's going on as there are so many things happening, its hard not to.
